DI Recap: Some Win, Some Lose

It's time once again to go around DI club play. The Pacific South and North continue to roll while other areas are close to beginning again.

Pacific South

It was another week of wins for co-leaders Belmont Shore and Santa Monica. Belmont Shore had the most difficult time over the weekend as they just got past OMBAC 30-25. Two penalties from Kalei Konrad put OMBAC up 6-0 before Belmont Shore responded with a try from fullback Greg Daniel. Andy Jackson would hit a penalty soon after to put Belmont Shore up 8-0. That lead was short lived as Stevie Johnson and Chris Turori had tries on either side of the half along with two Konrad penalties. All of that scoring put OMBAC up 22-8.

That's when the tied turned for Belmont Shore. First it was Jonathan Gray and then it was Cameron Reed. With ten minutes to play the difference was only four at 22-20. A brace from Keni Nasoqeqe five minutes apart, with a Konrad penalty in between, gave Belmont Shore the win.

Santa Monica had a much easier time in their match. They beat Los Angeles 62-5. The San Diego Old Aztecs also won over the weekend beating the Tempe Old Devils 21-10. The Old Aztecs are bunched up with Pasadena and Tempe in the middle of the table.

Pacific North

The Pacific North had a bit of a shake-up over the weekend. Previously unbeaten Olympic Club fell for the first time this year. They lost to Life West 38-20. The lead seesawed for the first part of the match. Life West struck first through Devereaux Ferris and Maka Tameilau while Nicholas Wagner had two tries for Olympic Club. The separation came in the second half when Tameilau scored his second and Kalafitoni Pole had a try. Testimonials Tonga'uiha and Jacon Finau had tries for Life West while Bubba Jones had one for Olympic Club late in the match. Olympic Club and Life West are now tied in the standings.

In other matches it was a mixed weekend for SFGG. Their first team beat the Sacramento Lions 65-17 while SFGG Green lost to the EPA Razorbacks 45-22.
