The Toronto Wolfpack haven't even played a league match yet but already there is buzz about adding more North American teams to England's rugby league competitions. The latest noise comes from Florida where a group is seeking to do what the Wolfpack have done and play in League 1 before potentially earning promotion. The group is behind the current Jacksonville Axemen team, arguably the most successful rugby league team in the United States.
The talks are still very preliminary and it looks like there is a wait and see approach to how Toronto do both on and off the field this year before things progress. Travel is the biggest factor for Toronto considering all of their opponents play in England. They've attempted to mitigate that by having large chunks of their season in the UK and then in Toronto. They've also signed an airline sponsorship deal that will cover the flights of visiting teams from the UK. Travel to and from Jacksonville would be a little more complicated given that there are direct flights from Toronto to the UK but not from Jacksonville to the UK.
