One of America's most promising prospects has been forced to take a year off. After suffered three concussions in the span of several months Tom Bliss has decided to take a break in his playing career. “It is important that head injuries are rightly getting more attention at the moment," said Bliss. "I love playing rugby but I have to look after my long term health.”
Bliss suffered a significant concussion while playing for San Diego against Sacramento last May. That was followed by another concussion playing for San Diego and then another while playing for Richmond a few months later. After taking some medical advice he decided it was best not to continue playing in the near term. Bliss started out as a student for Loughborough University before playing in some 'A' League matches for London Irish and then signing with London Wasps. From there he moved to Ealing and then to San Diego before landing with Richmond. He is now a personal trainer (www.tomblissfit.com).
