We've partnered with the Cal Cup to bring them coverage of this year's tournament.
It's all on the line this week hoping to make it into next weekend's championship match at Treasure Island. Four teams remain in the hunt for those two spots. Right now Life West top the competition but will go head to head with third place SFGG who are tied on points with second place OMBAC. Belmont Shore also have an outside chance at the final.
SFGG vs. Life West (Cal Maritime, 4:00 p.m.)
This match is fairly straight forward in that whoever wins will almost certainly make it to the championship match. Life West are in the best position as they sit with 16 points in the standings and in first place. If they pick up a couple of bonus points they could in theory make to the final without winning on Saturday. However, given the pressure behind them they really need a win. The Gladiators haven't had much trouble scoring this season but they also haven't been expert at keeping teams off the board. That was evident against OMBAC last weekend. They will be able to beat SFGG if they can find a way to limit the potent SFGG attack.

SFGG have not missed a final in a elite competition in a long time. Whether it was the Super League, the PRP, or now the Cal Cup they always seem to find their way into the big game, sometimes with late season wins. That is exactly what they are going to need this week. A win and they will jump Life West in the standings. Volney Rouse is back which should given them added impetus on attack and the team is rounding into good form at the right time.
Old Aztecs vs. OMBAC (Little Q, 3:00 p.m.)
OMBAC sit in a good position after their win over Life West last weekend. They have a solid advantage on tie breakers and they are facing a crosstown rival that they have had the better of in recent years. If OMBAC win they are into the final, especially given that the team in front of them and the team right behind them are facing off against each other. After their only loss of the year back in week two OMBAC have been playing some great rugby. Their attack is extremely lethal and lately their defense has been stepping up as well. With kickers like Zach Pangelinan at their disposal they have been able to pin teams back and give themselves good field position. If they can do that against the Old Aztecs they can have a good day.
For the Old Aztecs it's about once again showing that they belong at this level. The Old Aztecs have had a solid first year playing this level of rugby and were justly rewarded with a win over Olympic Club last weekend. Although they are locked into the 5/6th playoff with Olympic Club at next weekend's finals they will certainly want to head into that match with momentum with a solid showing against OMBAC.
Olympic Club vs. Belmont Shore (Marina Vista Park--3:00 p.m.)
Belmont Shore have an outside shot at the final but they are going to need some help to get it done after losing to SFGG last week to bring their record to 2-2. They will have to hope that either Life West or SFGG and kept away from any bonus points and a loss or will have to hope that the Old Aztecs upset OMBAC. Additionally, Belmont Shore will have to take care of business on their own end against an Olympic Club hungry for a win. Unfortunately the team will be missing the services of Mike Te'o and Andy Jackson this week.
For Olympic Club it's about picking up a win during the regular season. Coming off their best finish in the PRP last season they had high hopes this year but haven't been able to put it together. They will hope to catch a vulnerable Belmont Shore team but that is hard to do.
