Cal Cup Power Rankings

The Cal Cup wrapped up the regular season over the weekend setting up this week's finals.

1. OMBAC (4-1-0, LW: 1, beat Old Aztecs 47-8): OMBAC are going into the championship match this weekend on a role. They needed to beat the Old Aztecs to make it into the final and they did just that in convincing fashion with a big win. Zach Pangelinan had a hat-trick in only twenty minutes and his good form is going only to help the team against Life West. They beat the Gladiators in week four. Up next: Life West (championship)

2. Life West (4-1-0, LW: 2, beat SFGG 36-34): The Gladiators left it until the final three minutes but they pulled out the result they needed against SFGG. It would have been cruel for Life West to miss out on the final considering they led all season. There have been some warning signs recently, especially on the defensive end but they will be playing close to home. Up next: OMBAC (championship)

3. SFGG (3-2-0, LW: 3, lost to Life West 36-34): SFGG have missed out on their first major final in a number of years. Injuries have limited the team during the short season. They did have Volney Rouse back last weekend but it wasn't enough to see him push through to the final. They will have to take their frustrations out on Belmont Shore. Up next: Belmont Shore (3rd/4th)

4. Belmont Shore (2-2-1, LW: 4, match cancelled): Rain washed out both fields under consideration for the Belmont Shore-Olympic Club match last weekend. That will be a bummer for both teams as it limits their preparation for next week's match. Belmont Shore have played some good rugby this year and will be a good test for SFGG. Up next: SFGG (3rd/4th)

5. Old Aztecs (1-4-0, LW: 5, lost to OMBAC 47-8): The Old Aztecs were the latest team to find out how powerful the OMBAC offense can be. That said, the Old Aztecs have improved as the season went along and have shown they can play at this level. Up next: Olympic Club (5th/6th)

6. Olympic Club (0-4-1, LW: 6, match cancelled): It just hasn't been the year Olympic Club wanted. They did, however, pick up their first points of their season as their match against Belmont Shore was considered a draw. Up next: Old Aztecs (5th/6th)
