Northeast Academy Repeats As NY 7s Champions

Warding off a challenge from a tough Samurai team that featured several players recently in Eagles 7s camp the Northeast Academy has won yet another New York 7s title. The Academy was dominant throughout most of the tournament and capped that off in the final. Derek Lipscomb scored two tries while Chris Mattina had another. Alex Elkins scored for Samurai as the Northeast Academy took the lead into the break. In the second half Cody Jerabek, who has had a whirlwind year going from playing for Wyoming to standing out in PRO Rugby to 7s camp, scored a try. BYU's Zach Webber then had a score for Samurai but a late try from Mattina sealed the win for the Northeast Academy.

To reach the final the Northeast beat the Connecticut Bulldogs 27-0 in the semi-finals. In the other semi-final Samuari beat Schuylkill River 31-10. In pool play they blanked Quebec 40-0, the Academy 3rd side 34-5, and 39-5 over Schuylkill River. All in all the Northeast was loaded with talent with the likes of Lipscomb, Mattina, Harry Higgins, Gavan Morrison, Kyle Granby, Lance Cavanagh, Mike St. Claire, and Nate Brakeley all playing.

Other winners at the tournament include Quebec 15-12 over Scion in the Women's Premiership, New Haven in the men's social division, Lions in the men's club, and the Northeast Academy-Boston 17-14 over the Toronto Nomads in the Boy's High School bracket.
