Junior All-Americans Schedule, Qualifier Location Set

The Junior All-American schedule is set for the next year. The team is once again pushing to qualify for the Junior World Rugby Trophy and once again they are going to have to go through  Canada to do it. With the JWRT being played later this year, next August and September in Uruguay, the timing should help out U.S. selectors and players in terms of availability. More college players should be available and more camps will be held ahead of the June qualifiers.

It begins with a series of evaluation camps around the country in December. The first will be in Atlanta on December 2-4th followed by a camp in San Francisco on December 9-11th. That will be followed by a camp in Phoenix on December 16-18th. The idea is that camps around the country should allow the coaching staff to get a broader look at players.

From those evaluation camps development camps will be held first in Chula Vista in January and then in Austin in February. The Austin camp coincides with the Eagles vs. Brazil ARC match. From there the team will be picked for a qualifier in Langford, British Columbia. The Canadians hosted the fixture two years ago while the U.S. hosted last February's match. Having the qualifier in June should mean that both the U.S. and Canada have players coming off their respective domestic seasons. That should increase the quality.

  1. It would be great to see a U-20 ARC tournament develop as well.
