Georgia Alumni Association Awarding Scholarships


The UGA Rugby Alumni Association proudly announces the establishment of a rugby scholarship program at the University of Georgia. The alumni have committed to funding up to five $1,000 scholarships per year (renewable for up to 4 years). These scholarships may be divided between admitted students and currently enrolled team members.

The purpose of the UGA Rugby Alumni Association Scholarship is to improve the quality of the UGA Rugby Club by assisting highly-qualified student athletes in developing and advancing their rugby careers, pursuing their degrees and achieving their personal goals at the University of Georgia.

Eligibility:
  1. Admitted or currently enrolled student at the University of Georgia
  2. At least one full year of experience on a high school sports team or at least one year of active participation for the UGARFC.
  3. Continued active participation as a member of the UGARFC
  4. Maintain high standards of academic, athletic, and personal behavior.

Application process:
  1. Letter of support from coach
  2. Letter of support from teacher/professor
  3. Statement (no more than 2 pages) that addresses rugby accomplishments/goals, academic plans/goals, and overall interest in the University of Georgia and its rugby club.
  4. Copy of academic transcript
  5. Send these materials (in pdf format) to scholarships@ugarugby.com
Deadlines: To be considered for the 2017-18 academic year, materials must be received by February 3, 2017. Notification of scholarship winners will be made by April 1, 2017

Scholarship checks will be distributed in summer 2017 and sent directly to the university for deposit into the recipient’s account.

A Scholarship Selection Committee comprised of the current UGARFC Coach, a club representative and two members of the alumni association will evaluate submissions and make recommendations to the UGA Rugby Alumni Association Board of Directors. The Board of Directors will have final approval on the scholarship recipients.

The Rugby Alumni Association of UGA, Inc is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit and has received approval for tax-exempt status from the IRS, as a public charity under Section 509(a)(2).
