Eagles Names For Dubai, Cape Town

Mike Friday is set to hand out several new caps as the Eagles get ready for the Dubai 7s early next month. Alec Gletzer, Don Pati, Anthony Welmers, and Kevon Williams have all been added to the group that also has veterans Perry Baker, Danny Barrett, Andrew Durutalo, Madison Hughes, Martin Iosefo, Matai Leuta, Folau Niua, Steve Tomasin, and Maka Unufe. Of the 13 man group it will be trimmed to 12 for Dubai and Cape Town. Teams have traditionally taken an extra man in case of injury in the first leg.

Of the new players many are not new names to fans. Don Pati was the standout at the Club 7s Nationals earlier in the year while Anthony Welmers and Alec Gletzer have been in camps before. So has the speedy Kevon Williams who has mostly made a name for himself starring for the Denver Barbarians and Denver 7s. Williams could help replace some of the speed missing with Carlin Isles out.

Even among the veterans players like Leuta and Tomasin haven't seen a ton of time. With changes on the team this year they are going to be needed to step up to another level. Additionally, Barrett, Durutalo, Hughes, Iosefo, Leuta, and Niua all participated in some part in the Eagles November test series.

The U.S. plays Scotland, Uganda, and South Africa in pool play beginning on December 2nd.
