DI Recap: Griffins Beat Metropolis

It was a light weekend on the club front with The Rugby Weekend in Chicago. Most teams took a break so they could attend. As a result there was only one match in the Midwest over the weekend with the Chicago Griffins hosting Metropolis prior to the Eagles-Maori All Blacks match. The match also doubled as part of the Gold Cup as both teams were tops in the Midwest last year.

The Griffins ran out to a 7-0 lead thanks to a try from Scott Peterson but then Metropolis fired back with two of their own. The Griffins would grab a penalty but it was all Metropolis in the first half with several more scores to push the lead to 33-10. However, it all changed in the second half. Tries from Pete Smith, Michael Scanlon, Patrick Marek, Brendan Brown, and Daniel Perrino turned the deficit into a 43-33 win.

The only other DI match of the weekend saw the Portland Pigs beat the Bend Roughriders 27-19 in Pacific North play.
