Uruguay to Host 2017 JWRT

If the Junior All-Americans can get past Canada in a qualifying series they will head to Uruguay next year for the Junior World Rugby Trophy after that country was picked to host. The Uruguay Rugby Union has confirmed the news on their website. It will be the third time that South America has hosted the tournament with Chile hosting as recently as 2013. Last year's tournament was in Harare, Zimbabwe where the Junior All-Americans finished in fifth place over Uruguay.

Of course to get to last year's tournament Ben Cima had to kick a dramatic late penalty against Canada in Austin. Once again the U.S. and Canada will have to square off for a spot in the tournament. For years either because the U.S. hosted or one of the teams had just been relegated or were playing in the Junior World Championships the two teams didn't have to go through qualification. However, for the third year in a row they will have to test things out. No word on when a potential match or matches might be. Additionally, no word on when the JWRT will be which is significant because it has often run into the heart of the college season, robbing the U.S. of some of their best players.

  1. The competition has been moved from April to August.

    1. If this is true, that will be fabulous. It suit open the door for more US college players to be available.
