Regions Gearing Up For All-Star Play

Several regions in the West are gearing up for the start of All-Star play. One of the biggest rivalries to re-emerge over the last couple of years is the match between the SoCal Griffins and the NorCal Pelicans. It has become the curtainraiser to the start of the club season and has given players and opportunity to impress the likes of PRO Rugby. The Griffins men's side held their tryouts over the weekend while the women have their next week. That will also be followed by invitational scrimmages.

The Pelicans will be holding their tryouts on Sunday October 30th with the team to be chosen the next day. They will then have several days of training before taking on a team of All-Star Selects on the 16th of November and then the Griffins on the 19th. You can register for the combine on the 30th by clicking here.

One of the key things with the NorCal vs. SoCal match is that priority is often given to players under the age of 23. The teams have had U-23 matches against each other in the past as well as the women's fixture.

Down in Texas the Texas Rugby Union Women's All-Star team will take on sides from the Mid-Atlantic and the Chicago Area in Grand Prairie the weekend before Thanksgiving. Tryouts for the side will be held in a couple of weeks were coaches Holly Iker and Kate Turbin will make the selections.

Of course previously this fall select sides from the Empire, Capital, and Carolinas have all played matches.
