DI Recap: Top Teams Separate From The Pack

The rain from Hurricane Matthew wasn't enough to stop some great rugby from being played over the weekend with some key teams coming away with results.

The Chicago derby highlighted the Midwest last weekend. The teams traded scores throughout. David Whitney and Brian Rooney had tries for the Lions but it was the boot of Quinn Macali that kicked four penalties. For the Griffins, Andrew Suniula did his part to try and match that effort with a few penalties of his own. The difference in the match was that the Griffins weren't able to keep up the scoring with the Lions losing 24-23. Henry Youngman and John Luhrsen had tries for the Griffins.

Another leader in the competition, Metropolis, also had a big weekend. They beat the Palmer Dragons 65-13 on Saturday. The Kansas City Blues also kept pace with a 30-17 win over the Milwaukee Barbarians. Jake Nazworthy had a brace for the Blues. Lastly in the competition the Cincinnati Wolfhounds beat Columbus 26-22.

The other matches in the division also weren't close. Schuylkill River showed why they are one of the top teams thanks to a 31-8 win over the Potomac Exiles. Bruce Dolan led the way with two tries for Schuylkill River. Additionally, the Norfolk Blues beat Baltimore-Chesapeake 41-0.
