Aviators Stadium Makes Progress

The Ohio Aviators plans to play at the renovated Columbus Motor Speedway are progressing according to plan. Last year the Aviators played in a temporary stadium while the city of Obetz was working on turning the old speedway into a new 6,500-8,000 seat stadium. The project has taken a new turn as the final events at the speedway have been held and the track is ready to be torn up. The stands will be improved and the field will be made ready for rugby. There may be one catch as the new field might not be ready until May.

The Aviators enjoyed a strong home field advantage last year at a place they called The Jungle because of the often slightly longer grass than at other stadiums. The travel also played a big factor for visiting teams. With expansion on the horizon that travel factor may not be as big but as the only team to play in their own stadium the Aviators will have an advantage.

  1. I've seen that venue. Less said about that the better.
HOWEVER, the city of Obetz did a great job on making great albeit short-term facilities for the Aviators.
I can't wait to see what they will do with that speedway.
It will take a lot of work to bring that up to snuff, but I'm sure the Obetz city planners are going to bring it off with class.
