Opening Kick

Opening Kick is a segment devoted to bringing you all Eagles and U.S.A. Rugby news in one location. It is brought to you everyday by Rugby Marketplace, your independent rugby store

Our partners Grubber are offering $10 off their Tradition shirt with the code: TRADITION

National Teams/PRO Rugby:

The Pro12 has made even more noise that they plan on coming across the Atlantic.

If that is not enough Toulon are reportedly looking to Miami for a U.S.-based team and league.

We join Patrick Johnston of The Province and Martin Pengelly of The Guardian to talk about Olympic 7s and the Pro12 aims at North America.

It's not just America that are being considered for PRO 12 expansion, Canada is as well.

Atlanta is out as a stop on the Women's Sevens Series next year. There is a chance it could come back though.

Carlin Isles is already looking forward to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo as is Ben Pinkelman.

The fixtures for the Aviva 'A' League are out. Typically several Americans feature in the competition every year.

Club/College:

The Serevi RugbyTown 7s is just a few hours away. We get you ready with a preview of the tournament.

Also at Infinity Park, Lindenwood took home the Red Bull Uni 7s title.

The Empire women will be hosting the Capitol women for a friendly.

Rugby Utah has added a former MLS executive to their leadership team.

Jackie Finlan has more on the Furies and the Surfers drive in the WPL.

The Pacific Cup High School Championship is headed to Hawaii next year.

World:

Martin Pengelly has an excellent sit down piece with All Blacks legend Richie McCaw.

South Africa have named some changes to their line-up to face Argentina.

Both South Africa and Australia could lose a Super Rugby franchise under one proposal.

  1. While I'd prefer to see PRO develop it is quite conceivable that either or both Pro12 and Super Rugby makes the leap. I actually think Super Rugby may be more likely. With the introduction of the Jaguares I wouldn't be surprised if a Americas conference is on the books in the future.
