Ontario To Host Cork Constitution

Press Release

Ontario Blues, winners of their fifth Canadian senior mens rugby championship in the last six years, will host Cork Constitution RFC, the club cup champions of Ireland, in an international friendly at Twin Elm Rugby Park on Monday, August 29th at 6 pm.

The Blues, who routed BC Bears 50-21 at Fletchers Fields in Markham on July 24 to clinch the championship, will close out their 2016 campaign with what promises to be a very difficult opponent in Cork Con, who are returning to Canada after touring here in 2002. The visitors will play the Atlantic Rock in St John’s on August 26 before taking on the Blues, and will be bringing a good percentage of their starting XV on the pre-season tour.

“This is a great game for us” said Blues head coach Chris Silverthorn, “we get to play a well- known, experienced side who have a history of producing national and pro players for Ireland, just as we have done for Canada”

The Blues have a solid record in the nations’ capital, having beaten the Rock there in 2014 and the American Rugby Premiership Selects last year.

The Blues are expected to field the bulk of their MacTier Cup winning side along with some emerging players in what will be a very intense challenge match.

The MacTier Cup will be formally presented to the Blues by Rugby Canada as part of the festivities.

Squad and team announcements will be made in the next week. For more information, please see www.rugbyontario.com and www.eorugby.com
