Atlanta Out As Women's Series Stop

World Rugby announced the tournament stops for the 2016-17 Women's World Sevens Series and the U.S. is not on the list. U.S.A. Rugby has hosted a tournament stop since the Series began in 2013 first in Houston and then in Atlanta. World Rugby has named five of the six stops so it's still possible that the U.S. will still have a chance to host a leg (rumor has it in March in San Diego but that is just a rumor). However, the negative for the U.S. hosting the tournament is that while the crowds have been enthusiastic they have never been large and the tournament has lost money every year.

In addition to the U.S. losing their stop Brazil has done the same with Sydney and Japan being added. The Series kicks off in Dubai in December followed by Sydney in February. It then takes a several month break before Kitakyshu in Japan in April, Victoria in May (which is a move later in the season), and Clermont-Ferrand in last June. The season is extending further in the year than in previous cycles.
