PRO Rugby Power Rankings: San Francisco Move Up

We have some movement again in our PRO Rugby Power Rankings. Ohio and Denver stay one and two but thanks to another great performance San Francisco are up to number three.

1. Ohio (8-3-0, 42 points; LW: 1, bye): The Aviators continue to have some time off before their big showdown with Denver next week. They will be looking on with close interest this week to see if they are going to go into the finale with an advantage or a hill to climb. They will be hoping that San Francisco can come away with the win. Additionally, the Aviators need to stay vigilant to make sure they stay sharp and ready for the Stampede. Up next: Bye

2. Denver (9-1-0, 41 points; LW: 2; beat Sacramento 59-13): We nearly put the Stampede into our number one spot after yet another big win. The Stampede have to be happy that their offense is clicking at the right time. Try scoring has been a problem for them this year but not the last few years. Couple that with a stingy defense and Denver are clicking.  Up next: San Francisco

3. San Francisco (3-7-0, 17 points; LW: 4; beat San Diego 50-26): The Rush are coming on strong at the end of the season. This was the team we expected to see early on but struggled instead. They are building for next year and have some good pieces. Volney Rouse is playing some fantastic rugby and has to be an MVP candidate. San Francisco can pull off their biggest upset of the year if they beat Denver. Up next: Denver

4. Sacramento (2-8-0, 11 points; LW: 3; lost to Denver 59-13): Despite the eventual scoreline the Express has some good moments during their match against Denver, particularly in the first half. However, they fell apart in the second half which is pretty much the story of their season. More lessons learned ahead of next year.  Up next: San Diego

5. San Diego (4-7-0, 24 points; LW: 5; lost to San Francisco 5-26): The Breakers did pick up a bonus point but they struggled once again, especially on the defensive end. That's been the most troubling aspect for the team this year. Their rhythm was disrupted with international absences and injuries earlier in the year but they should have been better. Now they have one last match to finish it out. Up next: Sacramento
