PRO Rugby Power Rankings: Ohio New #1

There is a change in our power rankings with Ohio taking over first place. Prior to the season few pegged the Aviators to be in that spot but with big wins over San Diego and Denver they are rolling.

1. Ohio (5-3-0; LW: 2, beat Denver 48-27): The rise for Ohio continues with their most important victory of the season. Had they lost to Denver last Sunday it would have been lights out and their shot at a title gone. Now they have life with a chance, albeit still uphill, to catch the Stampede. They are getting key contributions from a lot of players and Dom Waldouck's introduction has been massive. When they get Angus MacLellan back they are going to be even more dangerous. Up next: San Francisco

2. Denver (6-1-0; LW: 1; lost to Ohio 48-27): It's a bit rough to knock the Stampede down a peg after only one loss but it was the way they lost to did it for us. Denver needed more bite, or at least to match that of Ohio, on Sunday and they didn't do it. Missing Chad London, Ben Tarr, Chris Baumann, and having Hanco Germishuys fly in from Eagles camp didn't help. Up next: Sacramento

3. San Francisco (2-5-0; LW: 4; beat San Diego 24-19): We'll call it the Mils Muliaina effect although San Francisco's improved play doesn't just come down to the All Blacks legend. Their team fitness is improving and they are finally coming together as a squad. If they can put a few more wins together they might finish with a .500 record, something that seemed impossible a month ago. Up next: Ohio

4. San Diego (4-4-0; LW: 3; lost to San Francisco 24-19): International absences are really taking a toll on the Breakers. Zach Pangelinan is coming on well for the team but they need the likes of Mikey Te'o, Joe Taufete'e, and Taku Ngwenya to make a difference. They will at least have all but Ngwenya back after this weekend. Up next: Bye

5. Sacramento (1-5-0; LW: 5; Bye): The Express conclude their long break this weekend as they make the trip to Denver. Up next: Denver

  1. Outside of the loss to San Francisco, Ohio have been a good team. Absent some very silly errors, they would have beaten Denver by 4 tries in the inaugural PRO Rugby match. They also lost to San Diego by 1 point. They are the best team in the comp.
