PRO Rugby POTW, Standings, & Scoring Leaders

Photo: Connie Hatfield
It's time once again to check in with PRO Rugby's standings, attendance, scoring leaders, and name our Player of the Week.

Player of the Week:  Shaun Davies

It almost feels like cheating to go with Shaun Davies again as our Player of the Week but he was excellent once again for Ohio over the weekend. The attack really got going once again and Davies was at the center of it. Additionally, his kicking was spot on. He was six for six on conversions (it helps when your teammates center it) and was two for three on penalties. There were a lot of other good candidates this week include his teammates Spike Davis, Dom Waldouck, and San Francisco's Volney Rouse but it was Davies that once again put in a superb performance.

Standings

Denver still hold the top spot in the standings despite the loss to Ohio. However, both Denver and Ohio are currently tied on 27 points and Ohio has the superior point differential (more on that in a second). Denver still are the leaders because they have a game in hand on Ohio. San Diego took the biggest tumble over the weekend. They are now more than two games behind Denver on points if you assume Denver wins their game in hand. Just to put things in perspective, if Denver had beaten Ohio then it pretty much would have sealed the title for them. One thing to watch out for Denver is their lack of bonus points. That could haunt them.

Take the jump to read more.

Going back to point differential Ohio now have a very wide gap on the rest of the field with a +122. Denver are the closest with a +60. San Francisco have done well to eat away at their previously large negative point differential and if they key playing like they have the last two weeks they could emerge into positive territory soon. Ohio are still the best offensive team in terms of points scored while Denver have the best defense.

Attendance

We need to state up front once again that these numbers are purely guesses on our part and are not official numbers. The league average is holding somewhat steady if not decreasing slightly each week. San Diego wrapped up their home schedule and averaged about 2000 fans. That's not back. Sacramento and Denver each continue to have over 2000 themselves.

Scoring Leaders

Kurt Morath only added to his league leading total over the week and in the process became the first player to top 100 points. He has a 32 point lead over Volney Rouse who is in second place. We also have a new try scoring leader as Spike Davis has eight on the season.
