PRO Rugby Power Rankings: Things Are Shaking Out

Photo: Connie Hatfield
Now through four weeks it's pretty clear where some teams stand. Denver, Ohio, and San Diego are looking like the teams to beat, Sacramento is in the middle, and San Francisco are behind.

1. Denver (3-0-0; LW: 1; Bye): Denver had the weekend off and we're not going to bump them down despite strong showings from Ohio and San Diego. Denver are looking very sharp after facing three big tests. They will have another this weekend in Sacramento. It could be a trip-up match. Up next: at Sacramento

2. Ohio (2-1-0; LW: 2; beat Sacramento 31-11): Ohio are looking more and more impressive every week. They continue to put up the points from a variety of players while at the same time having a very strong defense. They were underdogs heading into the year but now they look like a team that could finish at the top of the table. Up next: at San Diego

3. San Diego (2-1-0; LW: 3; beat San Francisco 46-33): It wasn't perfect but it was another win for San Diego. They went on a run, let San Francisco back in, before pulling away. It seems that the grind is starting to get to some players. This weekend against Ohio will be a big test. Ohio is going to make them work for every point. If San Diego can score than they can do that against anyone. Up next: Ohio

4. Sacramento (1-2-0; LW: 4; lost to Sacramento 31-11): After their bright start against San Francisco Sacramento have had a tough few weeks. They have played well at times but they still need a full 80 minute performance. They still have some guys that are adjusting to playing PRO and when they come around Sacramento should be good. Up next: Denver

5. San Francisco (0-4-0; LW: 5; lost to San Diego 46-33): It was a much better performance from San Francisco who had a shout to win at the end. The building blocks are there and when they get reinforcements they will be a much more difficult team to beat. However, they are still without a win a third of the way through the season. Up next: Bye
