Eagles Abroad: Weekend Review

Eagles Abroad is brought to you by Grubber, makers of fine sporting apparel.

With only one week left in the Premiership the Americans at Saracens have clinched the number one seed in the playoffs. They did that with both Chris Wyles and Titi Lamositele gaining starts with Hayden Smith coming off the bench. The trio of Americans at Newcastle weren't in the line-up. The team has avoided relegation but can't make the playoffs. In the Pro12 Greg Peterson scored a try for Glasgow as they hold the top spot in the standings and secured a playoff spot. Right behind them are AJ MacGinty and Connacht. They lost over the weekend but MacGinty did make his return. The only other U.S.-eligible player that might make the playoffs is Callum Black at Ulster. They hold a one point advantage over Scarlets for fourth place. Cardiff won't be in the playoffs and it's unlikely that Blaine Scully plays for them again this season but his hand is healing.

In the lower leagues in Ireland Tim Maupin and Conor Kearns each started as Trinity earned promotion to Division 1A. It's a big move for the club that will see them get better matches next year. Also, it's worth mentioning this week that Sam Underhill stated his preference for playing for England over Wales. He didn't mention the U.S. which tells you probably where they stand. As a reminder, it's our policy to follow players until they lose their U.S.-eligibility.

  1. What happened to Nick Civetta. I know you mentioned he got a chance at another European team so he passed on playing for Ohio. Any updates?
