Club Playoff West Regional Update

Men's DI

The Men's Western Regional DI final promises to be a very exciting clash as both the Life West Gladiators and the Austin Blacks advanced. The Gladiators were up 12-7 at the half in what was a tight match against California rivals the Old Aztecs. They match then went all square when San Diego scored. However, the Gladiators would go on a later run with three tries, including two in the last five minutes, to pull away for the 31-22 win.

The Blacks had to come from behind a couple of times to beat rivals the Dallas Reds. Three penalties from Blake Bolton put the Reds up 9-8 at the break. Austin was able to grab a kick to push it to 9-11 in their favor but a try from Zach Klump would restore the advantage to the Reds. They would then add another penalty while Austin would claim a try of their own to give the Reds a 19-18 lead. However, a penalty and a drop goal from the Blacks was enough to give them the 24-19 win.

Women's DI

Defending champions Seattle Saracens are one match away from the Women's DI title match. They handled the Santa Monica Dolphins with ease 37-17 to set up a match against the Denver Black Ice on Sunday. For their part Denver also had a relatively easy time. They beat the Austin Valkyries 34-15.

Men's DII

The Tempe Old Devils are on track to make it back to another final after they beat the Sacramento Capitals 46-15 on Saturday. The Old Devils were in control from all of the match. They will face the Provo Steelers. The Utah outfit beat a solid Little Rock Stormers side 52-30. Provo had a good regular season but it was difficult to tell how they might do against national competition, especially a Little Rock team that flies under the radar. They responded to that in a big way with the win. Sunday's final should be a cracker.

Women's DII

The Life West Gladatrix are advancing yet again in the club playoffs thanks to a 62-19 win over the Ventura County Ladies. They will face Houston Athletic who beat the Kansas City Jazz 44-26. Both sides will fancy their chances of winning the overall national title and should come out firing on Sunday.

Men's DIII

There were two barn burners in the DIII quarterfinals out West with Napa Valley edging Orange County 48-43 and the Euless Texans beating the St. Louis Royals 31-24.
