Men's DII Playoff Update

Yesterday we took a look at where things stand in the men's DI playoff chase and today we take a look at DII. Some teams have advanced to the Round of 16 but many teams are still in their conference match-ups. Things won't shake out completely for another few weeks ahead of the Regionals on May 21st and 22nd.

Pacific North

The Pacific North is down to two teams for the Round of 16 as the Portland Pigs and the Sacramento Capitals will square off on May 7th in Seattle to see who moves on to play the winner from the Pacific South. The Capitals beat the Vacaville Old Dogs 65-15 while Portland edged out the Bend Roughriders 20-19.

Pacific South

In the Arizona division the Tempe Old Devils, a semi-finalist last year, beat the Red Mountain Warthogs 31-12. They will play the winner from SoCal in the Round of 16 which will either be the Ventura County Outlaws or the Huntington Beach Unicorns. Led by 24 points from Lucas Vieira the Outlaws beat previously unbeaten Back Bay 40-22.

Frontier

The Frontier conference still has to whittle down their top two teams with Round of 32 play. In the Frontier the top two teams from the Mid-America and the Rocky Mountain division play against each other right. So far only one match-up is set with the number two team from the Mid-America, the St. Louis Bombers, set to play the number one team from the Rocky Mountain, the Provo Steelers or Boulder. The other match-up will see the Omaha Goats play play either Boulder or Glendale.

Red River

Who ever emerges from the Round of 16 in the Frontier will play the winner of the Red River. The Red River playoffs will be May 7th-8th in Austin. Things still need to shake out but we do know that Little Rock will be there after beating Tulsa 54-14 on Sunday. Tulsa could still be in the playoff depending on how things shake out in the D1b bracket. Right now the Austin Blacks and the Dallas Red are next neck in neck with the Blacks holding a five point advantage. HURT won the South division and will be in the playoffs.

Midwest

The Midwest will have their playoff matches next week. The Detroit Tradesmen, the top and unbeaten team from the East will take on the Eastside Banshees from the West. The Cleveland Crusaders, the second team out of the East will play the top Central side, the South Side Irish.

South

The match-ups in the South are also set. The Carolinas-Georgia winner Charlotte will play the number two team from the True South, Nashville. The winner from the True South, Chattanooga, will play the Florida winner the Miami Tridents.  Whoever emerges from the South Round of 16 will play the winner from the Midwest.

Atlantic North

In the Atlantic North is going to be a battle between the Mystic Barbarians and Amoskeag to see who emerged out of New England to play the New York winner. The Barbarians won their previous meeting 47-17. In New York it will be the table leading New Haven Old Black against the Village Lions.

Mid-Atlantic

The Mid-Atlantic is down to four. The top seeded Richmond Lions will play Old Gaelic in the first round. Wilmington will play Philadelphia Whitemarsh. The winner of those two matches will play each other for a nationals quarterfinal spot.
