Ebner, Suniula Top Pools At Hong Kong 10s

Both Nate Ebner and Shalom Suniula and their respective teams advanced to the Cup Quarterfinals at the Hong Kong 10s after day one play. For Ebner it was his first chance to get back into competitive rugby since joining the Eagles 7s last month.

First up for Ebner and Samurai was a fixture against Hong Kong FC. Ebner started in that match alongside San Diego PRO Rugby recruit Hubert Buydens. Ebner was active and involved early for the Samurai even if it did come with a few mistakes. Samurai went on to win that match 29-0.

Ebner was even more involved in the team's second match, this team against Projecx Waterboys. Ebner once again started but this time scored a try on the way to helping Samurai win 33-5. The try came as he ran a solid run and received a great pass. They closed out the day with a 12-12 draw against Pyrenees. They will play King's College at the University of Queensland tonight in the Cup Quarterfinals.

Suniula also saw success on the day. He had a conversion for Penguin against the Gladiators in their 55-5 win to open the tournament, a match in which he started. He'd then add another conversion in the team's 17-0 win over King's College. Suniula did even better in their last match of the day, a 16-19 win over Gavekal, where he scored a try. Suniula was very active throughout the day and was a good playmaker for his team.

Former age-grade player Sam Sirrel was involved in the tournament playing with the Irish Vikings. They lost their first two matches before winning their last match. Eyal Hakim, who has coached the Stars in the past played for XBlades Rowzy Pegasi. Unfortunately for Hakim his team lost all three of their matches.

Replays of Ebner and Suniula's matches are below.
