Todd Clever, Austin Huns Form Partnership


The Austin Huns have partnered with Todd Clever in their drive to professionalize the club. In an announcement by the Huns Rugby Management group Clever was introduced as a co-owner and strategic partner. With over a decade of playing professional rugby in New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, and now England Clever is uniquely positioned among Americans to offer insight. The announcement doesn't mean that Clever is done playing but that it gives him some options when he is done playing.

Austin, TX (March 16, 2016). Austin Huns Rugby is pleased to announce that USA Eagles icon, Todd Clever, will be an official partner in creating the professional rugby team and complex in Austin, TX.

Clever joins the Huns Rugby Management group as co-owner and strategic partner. His responsibilities will include developing a professional structure for the new professional team, recruiting players, serving as a key contributor in the development of a state of the art training facility and ambassador for the Austin Youth Summer Camps.

“Having one of the most iconic U.S. players on our team will bring invaluable insight to the success of this project," says Richard Osborn, President of Huns Rugby Management. "He will strongly compliment our efforts to create an impactful, high-caliber rugby program in Texas, which we hope to serve as a model for other clubs in the country."

Todd Clever currently plays flanker for the Newcastle Falcons and is the current captain of the U.S. national team. Clever will officially begin this new partnership onApril 1, 2016.

“I’m really excited about the project in Austin. From youth development to an elite structure, I know I can make a difference and am happy to bring my experience to the table." said Todd Clever. "This is not a retirement from my playing career. I still have the burning urge to compete, but I understand You can't play professional rugby forever and this opportunity to partner with the Huns is ideal for my transition from playing to the administrative side of things. I'm looking forward to bringing the knowledge that I have from my 10+ years of overseas professional rugby."

  1. Is the end-game in Austin's professionalization to eventually become a PRO Rugby expansion franchise? If not, whats the point? Need more details on this…please.
