PRP Power Rankings: OMBAC Move To Second

After a break for the Vegas 7s our PRP Power Rankings are back! Glendale keeps the top spot but we have a new number two with OMBAC moving up.

1. Glendale Raptors (5-0-0; Last Week: 1; beat Belmont Shore 63-7): The Raptors rolled once again. They are they only team with an unbeaten record and they are looking strong both in scoring (where they have a massive advantage) and on defense. Only four tries have been scored against them all season. They could be impacted by PRO Rugby but so far they still have some players on their roster like Zach Fenoglio who will be playing for the Raptors for awhile. Up next: Denver Barbarians

2. OMBAC (4-1-0; LW: 4; beat SFGG 22-18): OMBAC scored a big victory when they beat SFGG last weekend. They still trail in the point total by two but if they can beat Belmont Shore this weekend they will be in the driver's seat for the second playoff spot with half the season gone. Up next: Belmont Shore

3. SFGG Rhinos (4-2-0; LW: 2; lost to OMBAC 22-18): The loss to OMBAC stung and it put pressure on SFGG to perform well the rest of the season. They played one more match than most of the other top teams but that's gone now as they have the weekend off. Unlike some of the other teams in the competition it doesn't look like the Rhinos are going to lose as many of their top players to PRO Rugby as quickly as others. Up next: Bye

4. Belmont Shore (3-2-0; LW: 3; lost to Belmont Shore 63-7): It's going to be hard for Belmont Shore to crack the top two after their big loss to Glendale. It wasn't just their loss but it was the nature of their loss that hurts. If they fall to OMBAC this week their playoff chances are pretty much gone. Up next: OMBAC

5. Denver Barbarians (2-3-0; LW: 5; beat Santa Monica 36-27): The Barbarians kicked off their return from the Vegas break with a win over Santa Monica. The Barbarians have been a streaky team in the past and they will be hoping that they are on one of the positive streaks. Helping them out this week is Ben Pinkelman. Up next: Glendale Raptors

6. Olympic Club (0-5-0; LW: 6; Bye): O-Club had last weekend off. This weekend against Santa Monica is an opportunity to pick up points if they can take it. Up next: Santa Monica

7. Santa Monica (0-5-0; LW: 7; lost to Denver 36-27): The Dolphins showed well against the Barbarians last weekend and they are going to need more performances like that the rest of the season. If they can't pick up points off Olympic Club they may not pick up any more the rest of the way. Up next: Olympic Club

  1. "They had a match in hand on most of the other top teams but that's gone now as they have the weekend off."

That's not how that works. Having a match in hand means you've played one fewer than the other folks, and thus you have an addl opportunity to add points to your season table total. This will confuse people!
