College Top Ten: Cal vs. St. Mary's Looms Large

We are going to have another match-up of high ranking teams this weekend as Cal vs. St. Mary's go head to head. Can Cal unseat St. Mary's as number two? Also, Lindenwood falls down a spot after a loss to a strong Life team.

1. BYU (Last Week: 1; beat Air Force 80-8): Another week and another win for the Cougars. They are looking as strong as ever. They've already played St. Mary's and come away with a win. Next they'll face a good Central Washington side that should be a solid test for both the Cougars and the Wildcats. Up next: Central Washington

2. St. Mary's (LW: 2; beat UC-Santa Barbara 55-12): The Gaels had an easy time with UC-Santa Barbara, who are an underrated team. The Gaels have had a fairly strong early season schedule but it's about to get taken up a notch as they face Cal on Saturday. That will be a good indication of whether Cal or St. Mary's gets our second spot. Up next: Cal

3. Cal (LW: 3; beat UCLA 37-3): A win over rivals UCLA will boost Cal as they head into St. Mary's. Both Cal and the Gaels have had star players graduate. This match will be the perfect opportunity for new stars to emerge. It's going to be a must-watch. Up next: St. Mary's

4. Life (LW: 4; beat Lindenwood 45-15): The Running Eagles put in a very impressive result against the Lions. Any doubts some may have had that Life are still a member of the elite of the elite that was put to rest with that win. Life are ready for their Mid-South season and are a threat to win it all. Up next: Davenport

5. Central Washington (LW: 6; beat Oregon State 129-0): The Wildcats showed just how strong they are with a dominant win over Oregon State, considered by some to be the number two team in the Pacific Northwest. They've played club teams earlier in the season but their real test is against BYU. Up next: BYU

6. Lindenwood (LW:5; lost to Life 45-15): We moved the Lions down a spot this week. That's probably not fair given that they have some absences and faced Life. However, they'll get a chance to make up for it in two weeks. Up next: Bye

7. Utah (LW: 7; beat New Mexico 83-0): It was a lighter week for the Utes as they beat New Mexico. This week all of their attention will be on the LVI as they look to book a spot in the CRC. They are expected to be one of the top teams. Up next: LVI

8. AIC (LW: 8; bye): AIC is going to get in their first big action of the year as they go for the CRC qualifier. Along with the Utes they are one of the favorite sides to go far. Up next: AIC

9. UCLA (LW: 10; lost to Cal 37-3): Despite losing to Cal, UCLA put in a good effort. They are going to be a tough out in the Varsity Cup. Up next: Bye

10. Indiana (LW: NR; bye): Indiana haven't played much rugby this spring but it's enough to make it into the rankings. Up next: Bye
