Varsity Cup Match-ups, Schedule Unveiled

The match-ups and schedule for the fourth edition of the Varsity Cup have been announced. All 16 teams will play beginning in Round 1 on April 9th. The quarterfinals will take place the next week with the semi-finals on April 23rd. The higher seed will host the semi-final matches. Teams will then have a two week break before the final on May 7s at Rio Tinto Stadium. The final will once again be aired on NBC Sports Network.

Defending champions begin their tournament by going on the road against Arizona State. They will then play the winner of Penn State vs. Dartmouth in either Hanover or State College. Last year's runners-up Cal will host Texas in the first round and then will go on the road to either Army or Oklahoma.

Central Washington, a team likely to make the semi-finals, will host UCLA and then will go on the road to either Air Force or Utah. Cal and Central Washington are on the same side of the bracket meaning they could play in the semi-finals.

Clemson were the surprise team of last year's tournament and they will open up against Arkansas State on the road. The winner of that match will play either Navy or Notre Dame on the road. Who ever emerges from that group will likely play BYU.

Besides BYU and Cal, teams that could be big surprises are all located roughly in the same brackets. Central Washington, UCLA, Utah, and Air Force are all capable of making runs. Central Washington is underrated and have made the semi-finals year after year while Utah are coming on strong, as are Air Force and UCLA.

  1. But where?
I'd love to go to the Navy v Notre Dame game but where?
Will there be multiple games at a neutral site somewhere?
