Seattle Fall To UVic In Premier League Opener

The Seattle Saracens made the trip up the Victoria, British Columbia last weekend for a highly-anticipated encounter with the University of Victoria. UVic has been surpassed a little bit by UBC in the college scene in Canada the last several years but the Vikings continue to produce players for the national team. That, coupled with the fact that Seattle changed out a few players from their match against Glendale, including front-row duo Ollie Kilifi and Mike Shepard, saw them fall 57-34.

The Saracens actually got on the board first and led 10-0 at one point. However, two tries from UVic put them up 14-10. The Vikings nearly took the lead into the half but a late rally from Seattle gave them a 29-28 advantage at the break. In the second half UVic found their grove to go on to the win. TC Elliot had two tries, Dan Trieweiller, Ben Landry, and Russell Armstrong each had tries. The match also had a sour note as Matt Trouville was taken to hospital in the second half of the match.

It was the first BC Premier League match for the Saracens. They will take on Vancouver Rowing Club, who beat James Bay, next week at home.

The Seattle women resumed their season with a match against Capilano in Vancouver. Like the men it didn't work out for them in a 31-24 loss.
