TIAR Awards, Match of the Year: London 7s

There were a lot of great matches to choose from this year. The Varsity Cup final and the DI-A final were both thrillers. The PRP final and DI finals had their moments as well. Then there was the Eagles leading Scotland at halftime of the World Cup, something that nearly took home our Match of the Year award. The U.S. victory over Canada in Vancouver on a late AJ MacGinty drop goal and their win over Japan were also up there. Then of course there was the big match against Australia in Chicago where the Eagles were in it right through the first half. All that said, there was one match (or tournament in this case) that stood out to us above all the rest: the London 7s.

So we're cheating a little bit in giving the Match of the Year to a tournament but when you stop and think about what the Eagles accomplished winning the London 7s there is little debate that the tournament was the highlight of the year. Within the tournament there were numerous matches you could pick out to spotlight, including the pool topping win over South Africa, the smashing wins over Canada and England in the semi-finals, and then the dominating display over Australia in the final. For Mike Friday and his team, it was 7s rugby at it's best and we could think of another thing to label as our Match of the Year.

All TIAR Awards are brought to you by Canterbury USA. For all your team gear as well as replica jerseys make sure to check them out.  #CommittedToTheGame
