St. Mary's Perfect In Arizona, BYU Beats Utah In Scrimmage

With Cal winning the Storer Classic over UCLA it was up to both St. Mary's and BYU to get things started with wins. St. Mary's already had their pre-season match against SFGG under their belts but they got their college season started with a trip to Arizona to play Arizona and Arizona State. Everything went according to play as the Gaels as they scored a combined 153 points while only giving up 19. First up was the Wildcats on Friday in Tucson where the Gaels won 73-7. Then on Sunday they beat Arizona State 80-12. Next up for St. Mary's will be a big date with Lindenwood in Moraga. The Lions beat the Junior All-Americans in two scrimmages this last weekend.

After St. Mary's plays Lindenwood they will face Utah, who fell to BYU 82-17 in a pre-season scrimmage in St. George, Utah (the only place without snow in the state!). It was a scrimmage so each team made liberal use of substitutions but it was still a big win for the Cougars over their rivals. The match was played over four quarters. Next up for BYU is the Red Rock Invitational in Mesquite, Nevada where they will face Salt Lake Community College, Utah Valley, Dixie State, Weber State, Idaho State, and UNLV in 40 minute matches.
