SFGG & St. Mary's Battle This Weekend

Top college teams playing against top club sides before both begin their grueling spring seasons has become one of the best annual traditions in American rugby. Near the top of the list of any cross club-college matches is the battle between San Francisco Golden Gate and St. Mary's. This Saturday on the campus of St. Mary's the two teams will renew their rival as the two powerhouse programs go head to head.

There are a lot of connections between the two clubs with several St. Mary's grads going on to play for SFGG but when the two go head to head it's going to be heated. Additionally, each has a lot on the line this Spring season and they need the best warm-up matches possible. St. Mary's are looking to defend their DI-A title and with matches against the likes of Utah, Cal, BYU, and Lindenwood they need as tough an opponent as possible early in the season to get ready.

For SFGG, they also have a lot on the line. They finished second in the PRP last year and they are hungry to win back their title. Plus, with PRO Rugby coming on line many members of the team will want to show selectors they have what it takes.

Overall, the match should see some of the best rugby of the year and should be a match new Eagles coach John Mitchell should pay attention to.
