Serevi Selects Ready For Coral Coast 7s Challenge

The Coral Coast 7s in Fiji is one of the top 7s tournaments in the world outside the men's and women's World Sevens Series and this year there are once again American teams participating in the tournament. While the Falcons and other teams have participated in the past this year the U.S. representation falls to the Serevi Selects Women who bring a star-studded squad to the tournament.

Led by current Eagles 7s squad member Meya Bizer the team has several other capped players that are pushing for a spot on the Women Eagles 7s ahead of the Olympics. Carmen Farmer, Ryan Carlyle, and Rebekah Siebach all have extensive time with the team and have all been in solid form as of late. Nicole Heavirland has left West Point to focus on 7s and this tournament will be a big opportunity for her to shine.

Other players that could use this tournament to put themselves higher up in the eyes of Eagles coach Jules McCoy are Kelsi Stockert and Abby Vestal. Stockert, who was the TIAR Women's Club 7s Player of the Year has consistently been mentioned as a player that could even start on the Eagles. Vestal will be familiar to McCoy having come through the ARPTC. She was outstanding at the Club 7s Nationals.

The Serevi Selects will play the Marist Seahawks and the NZ Raiders in pool play beginning today (can be streamed live here). The Aussie Pearls, a team with several Australian national team players, are the defending champions and are the favorites to win the $20,000 prize. However, the Selects will like their chances.

Squad: Meya Bizer, Sylvia Braaten, Ryan Carlyle, Carmen Farmer, Abby Gustaitis, Nicole Heavirland, Danielle Miano, Amy Naber, Lauren Rhode, Rebekah Siebach, Kelsi Stockert, Abby Vestal
