College 15s Championships Headed To St. Mary's

The College 15s championships are headed back to Northern California as St. Mary's will host the DI-A, DI-Aa and women's Elite DI, DI, and DII championships on May 7th. The last few years has seen the championships go from the West Coast back to the East Coast with Georgia hosting last year and Stanford hosting the year before.

The choice of the venue makes sense as St. Mary's are widely expected to make it to the DI-A final once again and with some of the strongest DI-AA teams in the country based in California it could lead to a strong crowd. The St. Mary's faithful were in full attendance in 2014 at Stanford. The tournament will be held at the 5,500 seat recently renovated St. Mary's Stadium. The matches will also be livestreamed.

"Saint Mary's College of California is honored to host the USA Rugby 2016 College 15s National Championships," Saint Mary's Associate Athletic Director Marty Storti said in a U.S.A. Rugby press release. "We have a long and proud rugby tradition that dates back to 1888. Over the years we have hosted international teams and the best club and college teams this country has to offer.

"Saint Mary's Stadium is the perfect venue to host such a prestigious day of rugby. The bucolic setting, coupled with the hotbed of club, high school, and college rugby in the San Francisco Bay Area, will undoubtedly bring fans in droves to be part of this great day."
