Press Release

SCRFU is pleased to announce that we have chosen Tiger Rugby as our  Elite High Performance development partner. Tiger has a long history of successfully developing players across the country, and are already intimately in involved with our latest initiatives to relaunch our Southern California Griffins programs.

Southern California Rugby Union President Geno Mazza stated that “we are looking forward to having them develop not only our players but our coaches as well. There are a lot of programs out there and Tiger Rugby really is the perfect fit for the Future of rugby in Southern California. They will help us run our 15’s and 7’s  All Star programs so we may compete to our potential. This year we launched a Men’s , Women’s and Under 23 Men’s program. In 2016 we shall enter the Las Vegas Invitational in March with 3 teams into the Elite Brackets and give our players a chance to be seen by the USA Staff.

We could not be happier with the direction and vision that Tiger Rugby will take us.”

Founder and Director of Tiger Rugby, and former multiple National Championship winning coach James Walker says that “it’s a fantastic time to be a young up and coming rugby player in Southern California. With the commitment from SCRFU to revive what used to be a powerful SoCal Griffins program, regional Pacific Rugby Premiership teams in both LA and San Diego, as well as professional rugby kicking off next year on the West coast, there is everything to play for. “

“In addition to an exciting list of ventures that we are planning to deliver in collaboration with SCRFU, we have also launched a daily training academy with our partners at Rhino’s Youth Rugby in Irvine California, with additional programming coming soon  to both San Diego and Las Vegas. With the quality of athlete and rich heritage of rugby in the area, we are confident that the rugby future in Southern California looks very bright indeed.”
