Palamo Leaves England For The OTC

Thretton Palamo is headed back to the United States for the rest of the English season London Welsh confirmed today. Palamo joined Saracens last year from the OTC and spent most of his time playing in the LV= Cup and Aviva 'A' League. This year he went on loan to London Welsh where he immediately had an impact and became a consistent starter after playing for the Eagles at the World Cup.

However, with the Olympics calling in just a few months and Palamo seeing an increased role with the Eagles 7s team he's made the move back to the OTC to focus on Rio. He played with the team at the London 7s last season and played at the Cape Town 7s this year after being brought in as injury cover. With Andrew Durutalo taking a contract with the Sunwolves in Super Rugby Palamo could offer a replacement both in terms of size, breakdown work, and creativity in offloads.

In the press release London Welsh Director of Rugby Steve Lewis, said: “Rio 2016 will be the first time Sevens has featured at an Olympic Games, and London Welsh would not stand in the way of a player wishing to represent their country on such a stage. We were therefore happy to agree to the request from USA and while sad to lose Thretton, London Welsh wishes him every success with USA Sevens.”

Palamo will certainly be in contention for the upcoming Sevens Series legs in Wellington and Sydney in late January and early February.
