Friday Names Eagles 7s Camp Roster

Head coach Mike Friday has named his camp roster as the team prepares to open the World Sevens Series in Dubai this month. As expected, and was announced earlier today, the core group of the team returns. Coming into the camp as invitees include Colton Cariaga, Ben Pinkelman, ConRoy Smith, Joey Sok, Kevin Swiryn, and Peter Tiberio. All of those players participated with the Falcons or Hawks at the recent Halloween 7s. With injuries to Danny Barrett, Martin Iosefo, and the uncertain status of Andrew Durutalo (again left off the list but without explanation) there could be an opening for a power player. That means a player like Pinekelman or Swiryn could fit the bill.

Also absent from the camp are Ben Leatigaga and Steve Tomasin, who like Barrett and Iosefo are injured, as well as college players Alex Faison-Donahoe, Seth Halliman, Tua Laei, and Peter Malcolm. Seamus Kelly, who is mentioned for the first time in a 7s camp, is listed as unavailable.

As mentioned the core group returns once again with the likes of Nate Augspurger, Perry Baker, Garrett Bender, Madison Hughes, Carlin Isles, Folau Niua, Zack Test, and Maka Unufe all seeming like key players going forward. Add in players like Matai Leuta and Brett Thompson and the competition will be thick.

"Everyone at Camp has an opportunity to make the roster for Dubai," Friday said in a U.S.A. Rugby press release. "It's about what they are doing now that matters, not what they have done in the past. We run a highly competitive environment where complacency is not welcome.I am only interested in players who give everything to the squad."

The camp runs from November 15th through the 21st.

  1. Any word on Durutalo? Do you think he is headed for the 15s game or is there something else going on.

    1. I would not be surprised if he got a contract to play in Japan. He did go to school there and speaks Japanese.

Alex Faison-Donahoe looked good in the Haloween 7's it would be nice to see him some point on tour. Big guy with great passing in contact.
