ACRC Preview: A Quartet Of Matches

The ACRC Bowl Series kicks off today with a full slate of matches. For many teams on the East Coast this is the culmination of their season and you can expect teams to come out fighting hard. We've been previewing the action with a look at St. Bonaventure vs. Western Michigan, Syracuse vs. Notre Dame College (both by Ryan Trost), and UMass vs. North Carolina State. Today we continue with more previews.

Tennessee vs. South Carolina

This has all the makings of a classic. Both Tennessee and South Carolina have slowly building a lot of momentum over the last year. In addition to this being a ACRC Bowl Series match this match will determine who wins the SCRC. The conference has been controlled by South Carolina over the last few years and with players like Mike Mahon and Brian Keown they have the talent to succeed. However, their string was stopped by Tennessee this year in their only loss setting up what should be an excellent rematch.

It's the previous match between the two teams that looms large. It took place on Halloween with Tennessee only coming away with a 17-14 win. To reach the final South Carolina beat Alabama while Tennessee beat Florida. Both teams like to get out and run so expect a great match.

Boston College vs. Alabama

Boston College were the second best side in the ECRC throughout the regular season with their only loss coming to AIC. The team had a very impressive point differential of +243 which was good enough for third in the conference. Boston College blanked a lot of teams this year and picked up a big preseason win over Dartmouth. The coaching staff believes that their second half against Dartmouth set the tone for the rest of their season. Players to watch out for include Tom Edwards and Danny Schatzman.

Alabama were the top team in the SCRC West division with a 6-0 record. They stormed their way through the division with really on Mississippi State challenging them late in the season. The Tide weren't able to make it to the SCRC final, however, as they fell to South Carolina 32-27 in last week's semi-finals.

Stony Brook vs. Cincinnati

Stony Brook made it to the Empire Conference championship match and have been a powerhouse in the conference for awhile. They are well coached and they have a team full of experienced players. That experience could be crucial against Cincinnati. The Bearcats didn't have the greatest season in the MAC with losses to Ohio, Western Michigan, Dayton, and Bowling Green. They did pick up a good win over Miami but look for Stony Brook to have the edge in this one.

North Texas vs. Rutgers

They may fly under the radar but North Texas has been putting out solid sides for the last several years with good players. The team rolled through the Lonestar Conference with a big win over Houston in the final and wins over a number of regional teams. Rutgers played a tough schedule facing the likes of St. Joe's and Delaware. That didn't result in wins but it did result in experience. Both teams are going to have to travel which may even things out.
