West Coast 7s Goes Cal's Way

In unusual 100 degree temperatures in October Cal took home the West Coast 7s over a tough field at Cal Poly last Saturday. Cal were the best throughout the day and beat Arizona State 53-0 in the final. The Golden Bears played a mixture of veterans and younger players throughout the day as it was the team's first action of the season. Anthony Salaber led the team with five tries throughout the day.  To reach the final Cal beat Grand Canyon 29-7 and Santa Barbara City College 31-7 in pool play. They then defeated UC-Davis 29-12 in the semi-finals.

Despite the loss in the final Arizona State had a solid day as well. They beat USC 34-5 and San Diego State 28-12 in pool play before beating rival Arizona 22-7 in the semi-finals. Arizona finished third on the day with a 24-19 win over UC-Davis and before the loss to Arizona State had not lost on the day. UC-Davis also rolled through pool play.

In consolation play SDSU took him the Plate with a tight 15-12 win over UCLA, who probably had the most disappointing weekend of the teams even though they have a young roster. USC won the Bowl 20-5 over Stanford.
