Universal Sports Shutting Down Next Month

According to reports Universal Sports is set to shut down next month. Earlier today executives at NBC notified the channel's employees that the channel will be taken off the air on November 16th. The channel is owned by InterMedia Partners with NBC holding a minority stake. At this point there is no word on what will happen to the sports on the channel including rugby, cycling, and more. The Sevens Series was set to be hosted on the channel. It's possible that those properties, such as rugby, could be moved to another channel on NBC who will likely take over the rights of some sports.

This news will be both good and bad rugby fans. While Universal Sports may not have been widely available or made it easy for fans to view content it was a steady stream of rugby content for American fans. The Eagles 15s team has already been shifting to ESPN as well as Fox Sports while the 7s team is popular enough it should be picked up by someone else.
