Scotland Ring In The Changes

As expected Scotland have made a number of changes--ten in total--to their line-up as they get ready to play the Eagles. With only a few rest days between their match against Japan and Sunday and then again from Sunday to their match against South Africa Scotland felt they had no choice but to field their non-first choice team. Even without players like Greig Laidlaw Vern Cotter's team remains impressive, particularly in the back three with Tim Visser, Sean Maitland, and Stuart Hogg.

There is plenty of experience in the line-up throughout, especially in the forwards where prop Ryan Grant and lock Richie Gray will both start. Players that keep their starting jobs include Mark Bennett, Grant Gilchrist, Hogg, John Hardie, and Finn Russell. One name missing from the line-up entirely is U.S.-born Tommy Seymour.

Forwards: Ryan Grant, Fraser Brown, Jon Welsh, Richie Gray, Grant Gilchrist, Alasdair Strokosch, John Hardie, Josh Strauss

Backs: Henry Pyrgos, Finn Russell, Tim Visser, Peter Horne, Mark Bennett, Sean Maitland, Stuart Hogg

Bench: Ross Ford, Alasdair Dickinson, Willem Nel, Tim Swinson, Ryan Wilson, Greig Laidlaw, Duncan Weir, Matt Scott

  1. Nothing in this line up suggests an easy path for the Eagles. A strong back row will make it difficult at the breakdown. A strong back three will punish poor kicks and a disorganized line.

Big ask for the Eagles but if they are going to back up the talk of making some noise at this tournament now is the time.
