McCoy Installed As Women Eagles 7s Coach

Former Women Eagles 7s coach Jules McCoy has been re-appointed to the position and will serve as head coach of the team through the 2016 Olympics. As the current head of the ARPTC, McCoy has seen a lot of success as the first women-specific ODA has been a powerhouse in 7s over the last year, including a national championship. She was previously head coach of the team from 2006-09. In addition to the ARPTC, McCoy has worked with sides at a number of different levels and was a member of the 7s team herself.

In a press release Director of Performance Alex Magleby noted  Coach McCoy has worked extensively with our elite as well as developing athletes. She has coached XVs, 7s, women, men, all-star, academy, club, u-23s, with a proven track record of delivering victories under pressure. More importantly, Jules is a positive role-model for young women, as a former Eagle athlete, practicing physician, coach, and entrepreneur. Her proven leadership will be welcomed by all in the Eagles Sevens family over the coming days as we build a cohesive team towards Rio.”

McCoy said of the opportunity, "I am grateful for the opportunity to share my growth as a coach and a human being with the team. Rugby in America has come along in leaps and bounds since 2009 and I’ve seen it from top to bottom. As a group we will need a brief reset time. Our goal will then be to pivot towards team focus on a medal and honing the tools we will need to accomplish that task.”

The Eagles are coming off a year in which they finished fifth on the Women's Sevens Series and stormed through the NACRA 7s to qualify for Rio. McCoy will inherit a team that is poised to break out this year with budding stars like Richelle Stephens and Alev Kelter. The Women's Sevens Series has six stops with more tournaments for the Eagles to potentially play in before the Olympics.
