Eagles Abroad: Weekend Review

Eagles Abroad is brought to you by Grubber, makers of fine sporting apparel.

It was a quiet weekend for Americans not involved in the World Cup but playing overseas. With most of the top competitions shuttered for the World Cup it was players in the lower divisions that say most of the time. That includes in Ireland where a number of players were involved over the weekend, including former St. Mary's standout Kingsley McGowan. He came off the bench while Conor Kearns and Tim Maupin each started for Trinity and scored a try.

Also involved in was Todd Clever who made his pre-season debut for Newcastle. He issued the following statement on social media after the match: "It is regrettable and unfortunate how the lead up to this World Cup has gone for me personally. I feel the media release issued by USA Rugby was an unfair misrepresentation of the situation. For the past 15 years, it has been the greatest honor to wear the Eagles jersey and represent my country. I have always strived to set a good example for my teammates and aspiring rugby players around the globe. It pains me not to be able to take the field with my brothers during this World Cup. But I support the team whole-heartedly and wish them all the best!"
