Central Washington Wins Viking 7s

Typically the Viking 7s, hosted by Western Washington University, has been dominated by Canadian sides the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. However, this year UBC withdrew after having played in a university series in England, and more importantly, U.S. sides were simply better. Of all the teams Central Washington was the most impressive on the weekend beating visiting Arizona State 22-19 in the final. To reach the final they had a beat a very tough UVic side while the Sun Devil's beat hosts Western in their semi-final.

In pool play Central took on and lost Arizona State in a preview of the final 21-10. They did pick up wins over Gonzaga and UBC-Okanagan. Other teams participating in the tournament included NCRC sides Washington, Oregon, Washington State (who also beat UVic), and Western Oregon. UC-Davis joined Arizona State in making the trip up to Bellingham. The tournament also featured a pool with second sides from Western, Western Oregon, UBC-O as well as WSU Tri-Cities. The NCRC teams will next head off to the Boise 7s.
