UCLA Upsets Cal To Win West Coast 7s

The West Coast 7s on paper were supposed to be straight forward but that's not the way it played out as upsets ruled. The number one upset was UCLA upsetting Cal 14-12 in the final.  All-American Niall Barry scored first for UCLA only two minutes in with Ben Francis converted. It would stay 7-0 into the second half when Paul Bosco scored the first of his two tries for Cal. However, Russell Webb missed the conversion. That would be big as Pierre Croupon would score for UCLA with Francis converting to make it 14-5. Bosco would score his second try just before time but even with Webb's conversion Cal was two points short.

It was a huge win for UCLA that has been in the shadow of Cal over the last few years but has produced some terrific players. Barry looks like a key addition and should complement the rest of the team well. Cal will be disappointed not to win, especially since they had the likes of Jake Anderson, Andrew Battaglia, and Alec Gletzer on the pitch.
