Eagles RWCQ Home Leg Set For Atlanta

U.S.A. Rugby has announced that the home leg of the Rugby World Cup qualifying series between the U.S. and Uruguay will be held at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta on March 29th, 2014. The announcement comes a day after the U.S. announced they will be playing Scotland in Atlanta. The stadium will also host the U.S. leg of the IRB Women's Sevens Series in February.

The choice of the venue isn't terribly surprisingly given the fact that the Eagles tried to host their home match against Canada last year in Atlanta. Glendale had been a rumored possibility but with the choice of Atlanta the threat of snow has been removed. Atlanta is a growing hotbed or rugby led by the program at Life University. The stadium holds nearly 9,000 and it is expected that it will come close to selling out for the match.

The series between the U.S. and Uruguay begins on March 22nd down in Montevideo. The winner of the series will directly advance to the Rugby World Cup in Pool B  with South Africa, Samoa, Scotland, and Asia 1 (almost certainly Japan).

  1. This is a good choice. Glad the Glendale rumors turned out to be untrue. Hopefully the rugby community in the South rallies around this and fills the venue.

    1. Wiki states that this venue has a capacity of 10,000 and it s NOT on campus, so it can (and does) serve beer...It better be filled!

  2. Not sure why Houston's BBVA Compass Stadium wasn't considered. It has the two highest attendance records for USA Rugby on American soil. Very disappointed.
