College DI-AA and DII Playoff Dates & Locations Announced

U.S.A. Rugby has announced the seeding and playoff schedules for men's college DI-AA and DII as well as women's DI and DII. For the men, the DI-AA and DII regionals are scheduled for April 27-28 with the finals scheduled for May 11th or 12. The dates of the regionals directly conflict with the semi-finals of the Varsity Cup, ruling out those teams from participating. As in years past the divisions will be split into four regions. For the women, the play in round will be held from April 5th to 7th, regionals from April 12th through the 14th, and the finals on either May 3rd or 4th.

  1. Why Austin Texas when 2 of the conferences are Nor Cal and So Cal, and a third is in the Pacific Northwest? I guess the at-large will be a Texan team? This seems short sighted. You would think it would be in Nor Cal to accommodate the 3 conferences that are already in that "West" group.

    1. Specifically, the Austin RFC is hosting this at Burr Field.

Texas collegiates have been travelling to both coasts for years. The Pacific collegiate teams that will actually qualify for this round of playoffs will not groan too much.

    2. Texas is a crap location to play rugby in the spring. It will either be wet or hot and humid. Three teams traveling from the coast doesn't make sense. Let's hope no gun nuts show up to the after match. Can we give Texas back to Mexico?

    3. Did you ever stop to ask if any places west of Texas actually submitted credible bids for the event? I never even heard of any being interested.
