Opening Kick

Opening Kick is a segment devoted to bringing you all Eagles and U.S.A. Rugby news in one location.

Eagles:

Chris Wyles will make his 100th appearance for the Saracens tomorrow as he and his team take on Racing Metro in Brussels. Congrats to Chris!

One person that definitely will not make his 100th appearance for his club is Tommy Seymour, he was suspended for this weekend's match for a tip tackle of Vasily Artemyev last weekend.

Cam Dolan (ACL) and Taylor Mokate (broken toe) will be out for the Selects against Uruguay. John Quill is suspended, leaving the team without their starting back-row. (Membership required) Dolan spoke to the press ahead of the match tomorrow.

Prior to the Americas Rugby Championship most people say Uruguay as an easy match. However, after playing tough against Canada and Argentina, Alex Goff explains that they will be no pushover.

This is pretty cool. A player on the U.S. team that lost to France in the last match of their post-Olympic tour 92 years ago has been identified.

  1. Before the tournament Tolkin said that he wouldn't name a "tournament captain", but rather name captains for each game. Its nice to see that Dolan was selected as captain for both games, and talked to the press as a captain, it seems like he seized a leadership role in the squad.

  2. Is Notre Dame College really a varsity program? Their own website describes them as "scholarship club sport" and puts them in the same category as band, choir and theater clubs. The NDC athletics website does not list rugby as one of the sports. They have varsity bowling apparently.
