The Eagles entered the Shield final against Scotland hoping to salvage something out of a frustrating tournament. Unfortunately, it turned out to be an even more frustrating experience as the U.S. surrendered try after try in a 40-5 beating by Scotland. Scotland got on the board early and often with two of their players getting a hat-trick. The first Scottish try came after some quick ball to the outside and missed tackles by some U.S. players. They then got another less than a minute later. Both tries were under the posts and converted. Any time the U.S. had the ball they immediately coughed it up leading to a Scottish try. The last try came off the U.S. trying to pass it back, having it hit one of their players in the face, and into the hands of a Scottish player. Scotland led 26-0 at halftime.
The second half starting out equally as bad with the U.S. missing a couple of tackles allowing a Scottish player to score. James Fleming then scored this third to give the Scotland a 40-0 lead. Afterward, the U.S. finally managed to keep possession and entered the Scottish end of the field for the first time of the game with only two minutes left. The Eagles did do a good job of being patient in their build-up and taking care of the ball. That hard work was finally rewarded when Rocco Mauer scored in the corner at the end. Final: Scotland 40-5 U.S.
Eagles starting lineup: Isles, Palefau, Hawkins, Hume, Enosa, Thompson, Unufe.

I am usually not overly reactive, but I thought this was one of the worst USA 7's teams that I have ever seen played, especially considering that players are not professionals under contract. I am extremely disappointed in all aspects of their display.
